Hello all. I hope you have had a great summer! will be starting my classes next week. First up will be Excel Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5:30. Saturday morning at 8 will be Word. This will be the first time I will have taught Word on a Saturday. So for those beginners out there that would like to take Word on a weekend, this is a rare opportunity.
Tons of new stuff awaits you! We have new computers on the desktop and they are nice! We are now officially teaching Windows 10 and it is the default OS on the computers now. Also, we have upgraded to the newest version of Office…2016.
The biggest change will be how we teach. NO MORE BOOKS REQUIRED….for any class. Why you may ask, because everything will be web based. You are going to get access to all kinds of online training and an eBook for free! You will be able to access these resources from any computer with an internet connection.
So lots of exciting changes! Hopefully I’ll see you all next week!
We use pictures everywhere. They add to our documents, spreadsheets, and most certainly Power Point presentations. But are we picking the right pictures to use? Here are some links to websites that will give you some guidance.
Your choice of color and fonts when creating documents are much more important than you may realize. Below is a couple of links to websites that discuss these important choices. I encourage you to think about them the next time you are putting together a report in Word or a presentation in Power Point.
Perception of Fonts:
Here are three web pages that give you a lot of shortcuts for Word and other programs.

Tis the season for picture taking! So where do I put all those pictures?
If you want to save them along with any other files you might have, the cloud is a good place.
If you have a Windows device (especially Win 8), Skydrive is easy to use. You just need an account: http://www.live.com
Another good cloud service is http://www.dropbox.com
If you want to just have a place to save photos your Phone or tablet can be set to save to the following sites:
With flikr and shutterfly you can make books, pillows, blankets, mugs, etc.. with your pictures on them. Great for gift-giving!
If you take a lot of pictures….check this tool out! http://www.eye.fi/
Remember, MS Word has some good photo editing tools but one of the best is a free tool from Google called Picasa. http://picasa.google.com/
Here is some info on cameras you might find useful and a site that reviews them.
I often get asked what the differences are between different versions of Microsoft Office. Here is a couple of websites that gives you some of that information….
